Q. What do you charge for your services?
A. I’m sure you were hoping for a chart or fee schedule, but the Voice-Over business is a little more complicated than that. Regardless of the length of the production, jobs can vary from quick and easy to very complicated. Factor in the “voice” you ask for, to the music and special effects, to the production format and delivery type, and you can sorta get the picture. In addition to that, I take into consideration what it is going to be used for. I am very reasonable for a residential telephone answering message. On the other hand, a commercial for a local business to air on the radio takes a lot more effort and resources, so I charge more for the same length production. I know local businesses need to meet a budget, and can count on only so much response, whereas a national advertiser is looking for a more complicated production and expecting a huge response – therefore I charge accordingly. There’s an easy way to find out. Click on the Contact Me button and tell what you need and I will provide you with a fair price.

Q. How about Pro Bono work?

A. I knew this question would pop up! I do selective pro bono work. Since I make my living at this, I am selective in who I do it for, and how much I can afford to do in any time period. Feel free to ask.

Q. Do you provide scripts?

A. Good question. I do voice-overs, but I don’t see myself as a scriptwriter. However, I do have access to scriptwriters. I can give you the contact information and you can negotiate the fee with them.

Q. Can I write my own script?

A. Sure. Lots of clients do. But you first need to understand what does or doesn’t make a script effective. Just because it sounds good to you, or is funny or sexy, doesn’t mean it will persuade people to take the next step and make contact. If you are going to write your own script, try it out by reading it aloud to different people and get their reactions. Weigh the reactions but remember: everyone’s a critic and most are “experts”. If your script isn’t effective, no professional voice-over will make it ding-a-ling the cash register.

Q. Do you turn down work?

A. Short answer – yes. Sometimes I see a moral issue, sometimes a legal one. Sometimes I know I can’t do a decent job because of differences in opinion or beliefs.
